PrivacyPolicy

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains how Munch collects, uses, and protects your information.

Last Updated: February 11, 2026

Munch ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). Please read this policy carefully.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information to provide and improve our services:

  • Account Information: Email address, name, and profile details you provide during registration.
  • Camera and Photos: Images you capture or upload through the app (e.g., photos of your fridge or pantry) to identify ingredients. These images are processed to extract ingredient data and are not shared with third parties.
  • Ingredient and Recipe Data: Information about your virtual fridge inventory, saved recipes, dietary preferences, and shopping lists.
  • Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the app, including pages visited, features used, and session duration.
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, browser type, and unique device identifiers.

2. Camera and Photo Usage

Munch requests access to your device's camera to enable core features of the app. Here is how we use camera-related data:

  • Fridge and Pantry Scanning: You can take photos of your fridge or pantry so our AI can identify ingredients and build your virtual inventory.
  • Ingredient Recognition: Photos are sent to our servers for AI-based image analysis to detect and categorize food items. Images are processed in real time and are not stored permanently on our servers unless you explicitly save them to your account.
  • Optional Photo Library Access: You may also upload existing photos from your device's photo library instead of taking a new photo.

Important: Camera access is entirely optional. You can manually enter ingredients without using the camera. You can revoke camera permissions at any time through your device's settings.

We do not access your camera in the background. The camera is only activated when you explicitly choose to scan your fridge or pantry within the app.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide personalized recipe recommendations based on your available ingredients.
  • Maintain and update your virtual fridge inventory and track ingredient freshness.
  • Generate smart shopping lists and notify you about deals at local stores.
  • Improve our AI ingredient recognition and recipe matching.
  • Send you service-related communications (e.g., launch updates, account notifications).
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve app performance and features.

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

  • Service Providers: Trusted third-party services that help us operate the app (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics, AI processing). These providers are bound by confidentiality agreements.
  • Delivery Partners: If you use integrated grocery delivery, we share relevant order details with delivery providers to fulfill your request.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and safety.

5. Data Storage and Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and at rest. Your account data is stored on secure servers, and access is restricted to authorized personnel only.

Photos captured for ingredient scanning are processed in real time. Temporary image data is automatically deleted from our servers after processing unless you choose to save it to your account history.

6. Your Rights and Choices

  • Access and Portability: Request a copy of your personal data at any time.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Camera Permissions: Revoke camera access through your device settings at any time without affecting other app functionality.
  • Marketing Communications: Opt out of promotional emails using the unsubscribe link in any email.
  • Data Correction: Update or correct your personal information through your account settings.

7. Children's Privacy

Munch is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of Munch after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
